Orban: The EU is dismantling itself

Foreign Affairs. Are the EU elite winning Darwin Awards? It's in the direction of danger, if Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is to be believed.


In a post on Platform X, Orban claims that the European power elite is transforming the EU from a peace project into a war project, and that it represents a "Darwinian moment" for the EU project.

The statement comes in response to an article in the Financial Times, in which the newspaper describes Orbán as a “life-threatening” problem for the EU.

The reason is his opposition to support for Ukraine.

“FT is right about one thing: Europe is facing a Darwinian moment. They want to change the EU from a peace project to a war project. This is not evolution, this is decay. We must resist, even if they want to punish us,” Orbán writes.

He has long opposed the EU's line on the war between Russia and Ukraine and believes that more people should work for peace rather than confrontation.

“While others are fighting to defeat Russia, we have been fighting to end the war,” Orbán said in Hungarian media.
