Morgan Wallen Announces Stripped Down ‘The Shop Sessions,’ And I’m Already Liking It More Than The Studio Cuts
Stripping it back.
Today Morgan Wallen announced that he’ll be doing another round of more acoustic, stripped down sessions of some of the songs from his forthcoming I’m The Problem album, which he’s done before with One Record At A Time Sessions, and in my opinion, many of those turned out better than the studio cuts. A lot of his songs are better than the production they get, in my opinion, and I think these videos show them off in a much better light. If you prefer more traditional instrumentation, but still like the catchy aspect of Morgan’s songwriting, these are for you.
The first one he has out is “Just In Case,” which I initially thought had a good concept and could be a decent song, but the heavier beats and hip-hop flavor in the production just didn’t do it for me. Written by Morgan along with John Byron, Troy Matthew, Jacob Kasher Hindlin, Ryan Vojtesak, Josh Thompson, Blake Pendergrass and Alex Bak (yeah, it’s a lot of writers), and was one of the songs he performed recently on his infamous Saturday Night Live appearance.
While we still don’t have the full tracklist for the record, I think fans will really enjoy these lives performances, and even maybe some who aren’t fans of his music might like some of the songs better like this.
Morgan himself has mentioned before doing these as an opportunity to make the songs more “country,” or more simple, than the studio cuts, and he actually really shines this way so I’m looking forward to hearing more. According to the caption in his post on Instagram, they filmed it at an old auto shop with his full band:

The album is due out everywhere on May 16th, and he’s already released six songs including the title track, “I’m a Little Crazy,” “Love Somebody,” “Lies Lies Lies,” and “Smile.”
I have no doubt these will be a highlight of the album, and honestly, I think I’m going to like them more than what was done in the studio. Check it out:
