“Nobody Can F***ing Stop You!” – Post Malone Recalls Being Labeled A One-Hit Wonder In Encouraging Message To Coachella Fans
Definitely not a one-hit wonder.
It’s funny how certain things stick with you forever once said. One thing that stuck with me was when I was told in high school that a “five-year-old has a better golf swing than I do.” You can bet your bottom dollar that you’ve never caught me on a golf course since then. Even if the statements are not factual, words stick with people and can burden you for years.
The same thing applies to celebrities, and words can hurt them too. Post Malone shared during his Coachella set that people have called him a one-hit wonder throughout his career.
“I’ve been doing this for just about 10 years, and I remember at the beginning of everything, there was a lots of mf’ers that really just called me a one-hit wonder, and said, ‘Oh, this mf’er don’t (inaudible). And I just wanted to say that if you don’t believe in yourself, then nobody f***ing else will.
If you have a dream or if you have a goal, or if you have a passion, I just want you to keep chasing it. I want you to keep doing what you f***ing love, and love who you love, and love what you love and keep doing it and keep f**king kicking a** because there’s no one on this f***ing planet that can tell you sh*t.”
Given that Malone said this right before he performed “Sunflower,” it raises a question of whether he feels that it was related to the song, but it was most likely related to his breakout hit, “White Iverson.”
However, Malone is far from a one-hit wonder, releasing chart-topping songs when he was making music in the Pop/Rap genre, and now that he’s involved in the country music realm, Malone quickly secured a number one hit with his first country single, “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen. While those words might have stuck with Malone, he used them to drive him to work harder and push himself in his career, and encouraged his Coachella audience to do the same.
He continued:
“It doesn’t matter what you want to do in life, whether you want to be a psychologist, a bus driver, or anything, do whatever the f**k you want to do and do it as hard as you can. Don’t let anybody stop you because nobody can stop you, ladies and gentleman. Nobody can f***ing stop you. Nobody can f***ing stop you. Nobody can f***ing stop you. Nobody can f***ing stop you!!!”
DAMN… I’m hyped up…
“Hats off to every single one of y’all mf’ers. We really appreciate it, I’m so honored and so grateful that everyone came out to spend this evening with us. This song is called ‘Sunflower’ if you know it.”
Malone is the definition of chasing his dreams. Even when he came out sharing that he wanted to make the crossover into country music, he was met with backlash. But instead of giving up after receiving some hate, he stayed around and took his time to really immerse himself in the culture of country music. By the time he released his successful debut country album, F-1 Trillion, country music, for the most part, had accepted him with open arms. It also didn’t hurt that he was jamming out to Sturgill and Childers and Colter Wall, and many fans thought he might go real old school with his sound. He didn’t, but it was still pretty enjoyable. And the deluxe solo edition was actually much better than the collaborative tracks on the regular album.
Of course, not every album will appeal to everyone. For the most part, Malone’s fans love seeing what he’s doing and are thrilled to see him thriving in this environment. For the country fans who love what Malone is doing, he teased that he’s working on his second country record, which will feature an extensive tracklist.
“I’m pretty excited for the new record already. Made probably 35 songs; it’s just a matter of which one’s rock, and which one’s sock.”
Clearly, Malone has gotten over the harsh words the public has thrown his way over the years, including the one-hit wonder comment, because he is living his best life and is making music that brings him joy.
