Ringo Starr, born Richard Starkey in Liverpool, England, overcame significant childhood health challenges before becoming one of the most recognizable drummers in rock history. He suffered from peritonitis and tuberculosis as a child, spending years in and out of hospitals, which delayed his education but fostered his love for music. He joined his first serious band, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, in the late 1950s, performing across the UK and eventually in Hamburg, Germany.
