Eric Church & Creedence Clearwater Revival’s John Fogerty Reimagine “Up Around The Bend” For NASCAR On Prime
Okay, I’m coming around to the idea of watching NASCAR on Amazon Prime…
Today, they announced that country star Eric Church and Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty have teamed up to create an original song as the official NASCAR on Prime anthem called “Up Around The Bend (Amazon Music Original),” a reimagined version of Fogerty’s original classic.
The song will be available to stream exclusively on Amazon Music beginning Sunday, May 25th, and Eric also recorded a solo version that will premier the same day. That weekend marks the race day of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, which is the first race that will broadcast as part of Prime Video’s NASCAR Cup Series coverage.
Of course, “Up Around the Bend” a Creedence Clearwater Revival classic, written by Fogerty and composed and recorded only a few days before CCR’s spring 1970 European tour. It was included on their Cosmo’s Factory album, and released as a single that climbed to number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the spring of 1970.
It became a quick fan-favorite, and I can’t wait to hear how they reworked it to fit for the NASCAR races every Sunday… it seems like a great song choice, and I love the pairing of Church and Fogerty for this.
Stacey Rosenson, Head of U.S. Sports Marketing, Prime Video, says it was an incredible experience working with Church and Fogerty to put a new spin (pun very much intended) on an old classic;
“Working with both Eric Church – an incredible artist who is a genuine NASCAR fan – and the legendary John Fogerty to put a fresh spin on his iconic hit gives our coverage a distinctive sound that matches the energy of the sport.
Incorporating the anthem into our new commercial featuring the legendary duo of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Steve Letarte, alongside current Cup Series star Chase Elliott, taps into the heartbeat of NASCAR and highlights our commitment to delivering a unique, fun, and exciting viewing experience for fans.”
Like I mentioned, I think Church in particular is a natural fit to sing the signature NASCAR on Prime song, as he’s a longtime fan of the sport (think his hit “Talladega”), and has many ties to racing being from western North Carolina. Obviously, country music and NASCAR just go together, so I’m really excited to hear the final product.
Prime will broadcast five races as part of their NASCAR Cup Series package this season, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Steve Letarte will serve as analysts. They release a new commercial today that makes this whole idea look more promising than I thought when they made the initial announcement:
Prime Video is also premiering the highly-anticipated four-part Earnhardt documentary on Coke 600 weekend, and it looks GOOD:
