Elle Fanning and Ralph Fiennes Are the Latest Additions to The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

The subject of Suzanne Collins’ previous Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, he is—inevitably—also part of the upcoming Sunrise on the Reaping, which is set during the 50th Hunger Games. (For those who would rather not do the math, that’s 24 years before Katniss Everdeen makes her Games debut.) By the time of the 50th Games, Snow has become president (using totally normal and above-board means, of course). The role previously played by Donald Sutherland and Tom Blyth now passes into the hands of a new actor: The Hollywood Reporter has the news that Ralph Fiennes (Conclave, pictured above) will play President Snow in Sunrise on the Reaping. He’s not the only new version of a familiar face we’ll be seeing. It’s already been announced that Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee, the role originated by Philip Seymour Hoffman; Maya Hawke is Wiress, originally played by Amanda Plummer; and Kelvin Harrison Jr. is Betee, previously played by Jeffrey Wright. But wait, there’s more! THR also reports that Elle Fanning will step into Elizabeth Banks’ impossible shoes as Effie Trinket, who at this stage is the stylist for Haymitch—a similar role to the one she plays for Katniss all those years later. One more bit of casting has been announced for Sunset on the Reaping. THR calls the roles of Louella and Lou Lou “pivotal,” reporting that the two girls will be played by Molly McCann and Iona Bell. McCann plays Louella; Bell is “her Capitol-assigned lookalike Lou Lou.” If you have not read the novel and do not want any spoilers, I do not recommend looking up further details about these young characters. Francis Lawrence (Mockingjay) directs Sunrise on the Reaping, which has a screenplay by Billy Ray. It’s in theaters November 20, 2026.[end-mark] The post Elle Fanning and Ralph Fiennes Are the Latest Additions to The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping appeared first on Reactor.
