Staff at a care home in Skellefteå tried to feed a resident but it was unsuccessful as the person had died. The case has now been reported to the Swedish Health and Care Inspectorate, Ivo.

The incident took place at the facility about two years ago when a staff member went to a resident to give him a snack. Despite the person being dead, the staff proceeded to feed him.

Even when the patient did not swallow the food, the staff did not turn on the light, but went to a colleague to tell him that the person did not want the food. It was only when the colleague looked at the patient that it was determined that he had died.

A relative of the deceased person has reported the incident to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate and refers to the fact that the staff did not have the competence or training required in the profession.
