Former President Joe Biden Reveals More Details About His Cancer Diagnosis
Former President Biden feels optimistic about his cancer treatment. The 82-year-old announced he has an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones. On the surface, the prognosis might appear grim, but Biden doesn’t feel that way. He began his treatment with a chemotherapy pill and a positive attitude: “We’re going to be able to beat this.”
CNN reported the former president shared upbeat remarks in late May.
“Well, the prognosis is good you know, we’re working on everything, it’s moving along. I feel good,” Biden said. “All the folks are optimistic.”
Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support. pic.twitter.com/oSS1vGIiwU— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) May 19, 2025
Biden’s Initial Cancer Treatment Will Be A Six-Week Pill Regimen
This marked the first time former President Biden has spoken publicly since his cancer diagnosis.
“The expectation is we’re going to be able to beat this,” he said. “It’s not in any organ, it’s in – my bones are strong, it hadn’t penetrated. So, I’m feeling good.”
Biden also took a jab at reports that his mental health and stability began to wane during his final months in office. “You can see that. I’m mentally incompetent and I can’t walk,” he joked.
The former president then reflected upon his time in office.
“I don’t have any regrets,” he added. “There’s a lot going on. And I think we’re in a really difficult moment, not only in American history, in world history. I think we’re at one of those inflection points in history where the decisions we make in the next little bit are going to determine what things look like for the next 20 years.”
Putting talk of criticism and cancer treatment aside, Biden asserted that he is proud of his time in the Oval Office.
“I’ve been talking like that for a long time, and I’m very proud. I’d put my record as president against any president at all,” he added.
