While delivering packages on Memorial Day, Amazon driver Dominick hit the jackpot. He got invited to a barbecue with all the fixings. One piece wasn’t enough. The homeowner made Dominick take two pieces of the delicious-looking chicken. Topped off with an ice-cold soda, and the Amazon driver was on his way again. He did stop to pet the happy black dog on his way out with his heavily laden plate. Thanking the homeowner and his family, Dominick headed to his truck to eat, armed with a handful of napkins and wet wipes. Talking with the family, the normal Amazon driver on the route was a woman. She definitely lost out on a feast. Although we have commercialized Memorial Day with multiple sales on many big-ticket items, such as furniture and cars, the day retains a somber meaning. It is dedicated to every fallen American soldier, sailor, and Marine who never made it home from the battlefield. It is a day of parades of remembrance, bowed heads, and silent prayers for the fallen men and women of the Armed Forces. Many families use the day to gather together and share food, great company, and lots of smiles. If they lost a family member, they might visit the grave or say a prayer to honor their fallen.
