278 Strangers Gather To Sing “Somebody That I Used To Know” In Breathtaking Performance
Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to sing in a choir full of hundreds of people? Although this may feel like an unrealistic goal, the Gaia Music Collective is determined to do something about that. Located in New York City, this creative community puts together some of the most unique events. Rather than inviting only the most talented singers, anyone who wants to participate can do so.
With each event they hold, attendees sing their hearts out to various popular music. One of these events had 278 strangers singing “Somebody That I Used to Know” at Judson Memorial Church. The result was absolutely breathtaking! Experience their performance for yourself in the video below!
@gaiamusiccollective this space has such an epic history. it has murals of iconic activists & artists instead of saints, provided medical resources for folks during the AIDS crisis, and has been a hub of arts & culture in NYC for decades. we're so lucky to get to make music in these historied halls! As many others have pointed out, part of the beauty in a one-day choir is that the goal isn’t to be perfect. Not only is perfection never truly attainable, but it’s certainly not possible within a few hours. And that’s around how long these 278 people had to learn how to sing this song together.
Despite their limited time, and the fact that few, if any, are professionals, they did a stellar job. At the end of the day, what matters most is the beauty found in these total strangers bonding over music. Besides, they actually do sound amazing together!
