Will MeTV Drop Westerns Now That It Has an All-Western Spinoff Channel?

How will WEST impact the schedule of other stations?

While Western fans are thrilled about the arrival of WEST, the new all-Western channel that debuted last month, some devoted viewers have wondered if this will impact the schedule of Westerns aired on MeTV or Heroes & Icons, since all three channels are operated by Weigel Broadcasting. MeTV has been airing Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Big Valley and other Western classics regularly for years, while Heroes & Icons screens shows like Cheyenne and The High Chaparral. Will any of the shows be pulled from MeTV or Heroes & Icons, in order to be aired exclusively on WEST?

Luckily, fans have no need to worry: all your favorite classic Westerns will still air on MeTV and Heroes & Icons. WEST will just offer viewers more opportunities to watch them every day, at different times.

WEST, which debuted on September 29, 2025, is a channel dedicated exclusively to classic Western TV shows. The network, which is available as a free over-the-air channel in roughly half of US markets, airs everything from major classic shows like Bonanza to more modern twists on the genre like Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.

Will MeTV Still Show Westerns After Launching WEST?

According to a representative of Weigel, WEST’s new schedule will not impact the schedules of MeTV or Heroes & Icons — no shows will be pulled from one network so that it can air exclusively on the other.

For example, Bonanza airs weekdays at 8pm EST and in a Sunday morning block on WEST, but the show will still air Monday through Saturday at 2pm EST on MeTV. Gunsmoke, which airs Monday through Saturday midday on MeTV, will air Monday through Friday and also on Sunday on WEST.

So no shows will be removed from any schedule, and fans will have more opportunities to watch more episode of their favorite classic Westerns across all three channels.
