Review: The Dragon's Prophecy

A compelling review of Dinesh D'Souza's film on Biblical prophecy and the Middle East crisis.

I just finished watching Dinesh D'Souza's new film "The Dragon's Prophecy," which is based on Jonathan Cahn’s #1 international bestseller of the same name.

It's a fascinating watch, placing the current turmoil in the Middle East into a much wider context, both in terms of secular developments in the Middle East and, especially, in terms of how current events fit into Biblical history and prophecy.

The film, available for purchase now and included in our Platinum membership at the end of the month, targets evangelical Christians more than Catholics in my mold, yet I found it compelling nonetheless. D'Souza views the current Middle East crisis as a fulfillment of end times prophecies unfolding before our eyes, and he presents a compelling case by drawing parallels between prophecies in the Book of Revelation and current events.

He also draws links between recent archaeological discoveries that buttress the historicity of the Bible. This will draw some people in and put others off, depending on your own reading of the Bible and how it should be interpreted.

Wherever you stand on the question of whether the prophecies are literally being fulfilled, D'Souza does an outstanding job of building the case that the conflict in the Middle East is one between Good and Evil, and that the people supporting Hamas and excoriating Israel for defending itself are, consciously or not, choosing the demonic side of the conflict.

The film opens exactly as you expect: the atrocities of October 7th, 2023, which was as clear an act of evil as you can find. Hamas terrorists live-streamed it, its supporters celebrated it, and a worldwide movement sprang up to support the terrorists who committed it. For two years now, a vast swathe of post-Christian Westerners have embraced Hamas terrorists, propagandized for them, slandered Jews with ancient blood libels, and have done what is arguably Satan's work.

D'Souza and Cahn see Satan's hand behind this, and whether you literally believe that is true or not, you cannot deny that evil is at work.

I often use the term "demonic" these days--something I would never have done even 4 or 5 years ago, because I don't think in those terms.  But it really does feel as if evil has been unleashed upon the world, and since many or most Westerners have become unmoored from Christianity or Judeo-Christian values, an inversion of values has gripped the West.

Alphabet ideology is the most obvious example to me. Parents are sacrificing their children on the altar of a demonic ideology that demands they sterilize and mutilate their children to accomplish the literally impossible: change their God-given sex. We hear lots of blather about how it is kind, or will save lives, or that this helps children who were "born in the wrong body."

That is all factually and obviously untrue. Even the most cursory glance at the scientific research shows that gender-bending "medicine" is barbaric and has zero evidentiary basis. Yet promotion of it is a red line for liberals, and it is being pushed in our public schools.

The propaganda is intense, and the less common-sensical a position is, the more it is pushed at us as "brave" and necessary.

Prominent politicians insist that putting pedophiles in girl's locker rooms is vital, and anybody who questions doing so is evil. Mothers trying to protect their children are being slandered, and parents trying to shield their children from the most vile alphabet propaganda that encourages children to go on gay dating sites are shouted down at school board meetings. Things like this (NSFW) are now as common as grains of sand on a beach.

Rapists and pedophiles are being put in women's prisons while "experts" assure us this is all perfectly normal. It is now common for pedophile rapists to get shorter prison sentences than the people who criticize them online in the UK.

It is, in fact demonic. Whether you believe that literal demons are doing it or that it is human beings with demonic ideas are, in a practical sense we are still called to oppose evil where we see it.

Evangelical Christians will feel more comfortable with D'Souza's take than some others, because he is of the first opinion. But whether you are inclined to agree or not, the movie itself is well worth watching. D'Souza tells a compelling story, interviews people like Ambassador Mike Huckabee and Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, and takes us through fascinating archaeological history.

We really ARE facing a battle between Good and Evil, and as has been true for millennia, Israel is at ground zero.
