For many families — especially those with millennials in them — it’s simply not October until everyone has watched Casper, the charming 1995 family film that follows Christina Ricci and Bill Pullman as a father and daughter who move to a spooky haunted manor in Maine, and befriend the ghost of a young teen boy. Unfortunately, if you’re looking to watch Casper on network TV this year, you’re out of luck — the film is only airing on cable. However, depending on your area, you might be able to see it at your local movie theater, as part of the film’s 30th anniversary re-release.
Casper is airing exclusively on the Freeform channel this Halloween season, and fans have 10 more changes to catch a screening between now and the end of Halloween.

Though many Casper fans assume Devon Sawa is the voice actor behind Casper, that isn’t true — he simply plays the living version of the character, in a small cameo towards the end of the film. Malachi Peterson actually voices Casper throughout the bulk of the film. In a 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Sawa revealed the very simple reason he was cast in the role, rather than Peterson: Sawa was hired “two and a half, three months” into film production because the voice actor “was younger than Christina, and they needed somebody Christina’s age.”
