Our visit to Edgar Allan Poe's House in Baltimore

Since it was hot outside and the home is tiny, they only allow people to visit inside the location if they have a scheduled appointment. When our Uber driver dropped us off, we were unaware of this restriction. We checked the door to see if we could enter or needed a reservation for another time. We had been out in the heat visiting other places in Baltimore, but this house was on our list. Fortunately, there was a cancellation, and we were able to slip inside.

We took pictures of the site and our visit while waiting. There are several more photos from this location in our collection if you click on the "More Photos" link at the bottom of the page.

Upon entering the front door, you find yourself standing in a small room that serves as a gift shop. This is where you can purchase tickets and merchandise if you would like to buy a souvenir. We were surprised to learn that this room was originally one of the main rooms in the small 300 square foot home that once housed four adults and two children. You can come along with us if you wish by watching our video below.

We spent some time roaming the house, taking our turns on the stairs to go to the various floors. There were only 2 main floors, and the bedroom was in the attic. Only Marianne went up to the attic because the opening and staircase were extremely small. We were told by the docent upstairs that the main room that had the stairs to the attack would have been Grandmother Poe's room, as she was bedridden at the time, and Edgar would have had to go through her room to use the small stairs up to his room in the attic.

This building holds a lot of historical significance for the life of Edgar Allan Poe, and we have a lot of it documented on the PANICd.com website, so we did not want to duplicate that information in this post. To learn more about the history and paranormal activity reported at this location, click the link below. Some of those claims were actually told to us the day that we visited by one of the docents, which is always a pleasure to get the information directly from those who spend a lot of time within a building.

Despite the potential issue of not being able to enter, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Our only complaint concerns the Uber driver, not the house or docents. His driving skills were questionable, but we did make it across town to the location without any major issues. It was good that we had a chance to walk around outside to walk off the experience before entering.

Please let us know down in the comments if you have visited this location; we would love to hear about your adventure.
