An Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University administrator has told conservative students that a poster they seek to hang to advertise their upcoming guest speaker cannot include the words “DEI is racism.”
“The following statements must be removed: DEI IS RACISM,” states an email from Molly Webb, the Student Engagement Advisor at the Arizona-based institution. The school also has a campus in Florida.
A copy of the email was published by Young America’s Foundation, as its Young Americans For Freedom Embry-Riddle chapter is slated to host Lt. Col. Allen West in early November.
West is a Christian constitutional conservative, combat veteran, and former member of Congress.
A poster touting the event states that West will speak “against DEI this Nov. 5th.” According to Webb’s email to the YAF chapter, that wording must be removed, too.
What’s more, according to Webb, the poster cannot contain the following DEI description: “DEI stands for ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion.’ This acronym has often been used under the guise of promoting quality. However, Allen West argues against this, stating that it actually does more harm than good, often resulting in reverse racism and lack of merit.”
The poster also cannot state West “has personally witnessed the dangers of DEI policies. He is coming to ERAU Prescott to speak against DEI.”

YAF’s spokesman Spencer Brown denounced the decision as extreme censorship that has become all too common at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, which specializes in aviation and aerospace programs.
Writing for YAF on Tuesday, Brown noted that previously conservative students at ERAU have also been banned from discussing the number of genders and that officials “tried to prevent the YAF chapter from hosting detransitioner Chloe Cole.”
“As YAF has repeatedly reported, ERAU’s totalitarian speech ban is used to silence only certain (read: conservative) viewpoints because they contradict leftist nonsense,” Brown wrote.
In February of this year, YAF filed a civil rights complaint against the university. The 13-page complaint cited numerous instances in which the private university — which has campuses in both Arizona and Florida — cracked down on the free expression of its conservatives students.
