It was a comment made Thursday at a Homeland Security Committee hearing by Democrat Rep. Bennie Thompson (MS-02) that caused jaws to drop around the nation. At least, jaws belonging to decent people, which Thompson apparently is not.

The former chair of the January 6th Committee clown show referred to the horrific terrorist shooting of two National Guardsmen in November — which killed one of them and left the other with critical injuries — as an “unfortunate accident.” A planned, cold-blooded terrorist execution by an Allahu Akbar-screaming Afghan in our nation’s capital was an accident?
Even from a member of today's violence-obsessed Democrat party, this was a new low.
As our Rusty Weiss reported, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was shocked, saying, “You think that was an unfortunate accident?! It was a terrorist attack." “I’ll get it straight,” was the best Thompson could do. Utterly pathetic.

He was given another chance to apologize to the families of the National Guardsmen and clarify that he would never describe a horrific tragedy in such an emotionally stunted fashion, and once again, he failed miserably. Appearing on CNN News Central on Friday, he was asked whether he stood by his “unfortunate accident” statement:

"Oh, absolutely not," he replied. "And obviously, let me be clear, I was moving toward the discussion that [Kristi Noem] could not blame Joe Biden on the situation because she approved this person's asylum application and that's where we were headed and so the issue is..."
[Anchor Kate] Bolduan then interrupted the congressman, asking him, "You're saying you misspoke?" "Oh, absolutely. Absolutely," he responded, before she shifted to a conversation about healthcare.

What an utter lack of guts shown by both Thompson and Bolduan here. For a moment, she pretended to be a real journalist and not the partisan leftist hack that she is, but once she’d gotten her little required question out of the way, she moved on with zero follow-up and zero sincerity. If the families of the two guardsmen happened to be watching, you’d think they’d have to be shouting at the television, “Why aren’t you asking how he could say such a soulless thing about people who were shot by a terrorist?!” But she didn’t, and that tells you everything about CNN and why it is considered such a flaming piece of garbage by so many Americans.

Thompson… What can you even say? Since Wicked 2 is in the theaters, I can’t help but think about the Tin Man without a heart. Too bad there’s no Wizard of Oz to give one to Bennie, because he certainly seems to be lacking one here.
He did post this Friday, perfunctorily throwing in the boilerplate text, "I condemn all targeted violence and political violence," but notice that he still didn't say this was terrorism, nor did he express any support for the families. Incredibly, he also included the CNN clip where he does not say he condemns political violence. Why add it then? Presumably, he did so because he thought it made him look better, but it just made him seem even more soulless.
The attack on our National Guard service members is an unspeakable tragedy. I condemn all targeted violence and political violence. pic.twitter.com/WYXxGPCYAu

Of course, this is but one of many such instances of Democrats behaving badly and leftist news outlets covering for them. It points to something larger and much more sinister in our society, and that’s the Left’s tolerance of and often outright glorification of political violence. We’ve seen the ghouls celebrating the alleged cold-blooded assassin Luigi Mangione, laughing at the murder of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, the endless thinly-veiled calls for attacks on conservatives, and even the outright threats from characters like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

Bennie Thompson’s comments are more than cold and heartless; they’re dangerous, because it’s yet another example of Democrats minimizing domestic terrorism as long as it’s in the name of the right cause. It’s exactly this kind of rhetoric that is lighting the fires of division in this country, and some are paying for it with their lives.
