Is Anybody Shocked That Biden's DOJ Pressured FBI to Search Trump's Residence?

Analyzing the Biden DOJ's influence on the FBI's investigation into Trump.

Perhaps I am being uncharitable, but I doubt the sincerity of my liberal friends who have insisted for years that they believe that the hounding of Donald Trump before, during, and especially after his first presidency was justified and not simply lawfare.

Let me be a bit clearer: I don't exactly think that most of them know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Trump was being illegally persecuted; rather, I think they knew in their hearts that he was, and worked mightily to convince themselves that he deserved it and that this was a special case because he was Orange Hitler.

I know people who will go to the mat to ensure all the legal niceties for rapists and murderers who nonetheless will claim that Letitia James and Alvin Bragg had motives that were pure as the driven snow, and that the Deputy Attorney General—they #3 job in the Justice Department—just happened to want to leave a cushy federal job at the top of the pyramid to work in the New York District Attorney's Office and just happened to be assigned the Trump Prosecution.

Total coincidence.

Yeah, they aren't that stupid. Many of these people are my friends, and I trust that they have good hearts, but even good and smart people will go through intellectual backflips when they want to believe something so much.

Not that it will matter to my liberal friends, I fear, but a new tranche of evidence released by the FBI shows that agents in the Washington Field Office didn't believe they had probable cause to search Mar-a-Lago, and that Merrick Garland's Justice Department browbeat them until they finally got a search warrant without, in their judgment, probable cause.

"WFO has been drafting a search warrant affidavit related to these potential boxes, but has some concerns that the information is single source, has not been corroborated, and may be dated," the official continues. "DOJ CES opines, however, that the SW’s meet the probable cause standard."

"Even as we continue down the path towards a search warrant, WFO believes that a reasonable conversation with the former president’s attorney, (stating that the FBI and DOJ are readying a search warrant, and have developed information that there are more documents at Mar a Lago), ought not to be discounted," the official wrote.

"At a minimum, even if the former president’s attorney is correct and the documents were all declassified (or believed to be declassified), it can be reasonably argued that the documents remain sensitive and should be properly secured until the matter of classification is sorted out," the official continued. "This conversation could easily be accomplished at the same time that WFO presses forward with the investigation and continues building out the search warrant."

Weeks later, an FBI agent writes an email stating: "We haven’t generated any new facts, but keep being given draft after draft after draft."

"Absent a witness coming forward with recent information about classified on site, at what point is it fair to table this?" the agent writes. "It is time consuming for the team, and not productive if there are no new facts supporting PC (probable cause)?"

Another email revealed that the FBI’s Washington Field Office did "not believe (and has articulated to DOJ CES), that we have established probable cause for the search warrant for classified records at Mar a Lago."

"DOJ has opined that they do have probable cause, requesting a wide scope including residence, office, storage space," an agent wrote.

The FBI believed that a raid would be "counterproductive," and suggested "alternative, less intrusive and likelier quicker options for resolution" to reclaim any potential classified records.

The process moved forward, regardless of concerns.

I seem to recall that Garland bent over backwards to claim that nothing remotely like this ever happened, and got all uppity when it was suggested that, in fact, the Justice Department was interfering in the investigation.

How dare we!

Yeah, well, Garland was a liar, as any fair person could have figured out if they cared to know. The same people who will defend James Comey to the death over his leaking classified information will turn around and scream "nobody is above the law" when it comes to the President, because he is Big, Bad, and Orange.

I know many of you doubt that there are good, decent liberals, but I assure you, it is true. And sometimes their dishonesty is not primarily directed at you, but instead at themselves. They want so much to believe certain things that they will twist themselves into knots to avoid acknowledging the obvious.

I know many older people, for instance, who idolize JFK based on the image that was carefully cultivated during and after his presidency. When you bring up the rapes, the prostituting of his mistresses to his associates, and any of his less admirable traits, a lot of handwaving ensues.

It's too painful to acknowledge, so they don't.

Everybody does it to some extent, of course. We are human. It's just that the emotional temperature around Trump is so high that the rage is incandescent. For God's sake, I know many people who actually believed, or claimed to believe, that Biden was sharp as a tack.

For instance, Sam Harris, who is a bright man and a major sufferer of TDS, says that even though he was a neuroscientist he still believed that Biden was still mentally sharp until it was proven beyond a doubt that he wasn't.

No, he didn't. He may tell himself he did, but he knew in his heart that Biden was toast. He just hated Trump so much that he was willing to accept anything and pretend to believe it.

He even sends tells that he knew in his heart that Biden's brain was gone.

The same process has taken place in people's minds regarding the lawfare against Trump. Just as Sam Harris says he would throw democracy over the side and hand the country over to technocrats in order to "save democracy," many liberals were really fine with the lawfare against Trump because, well, Trump.

They tell themselves that's not true, but...REALLY? If they had to confess their sins to God, could they honestly say they believe that the process was apolitical?
