Moral Rot

A critique of moral decay regarding abortion and parenting in modern society.

I've been meaning to write this post for a few days now, but events keep getting in the way.

The total moral collapse of my state in so public a fashion has kept me from addressing the total moral collapse of a segment of our population.

In many ways, the origins of both have the same cause: an inversion of values that leads people to abandon any sense of right and wrong, and a belief that we are all called to demand that our desires be met regardless of the consequences to others.

I have written often enough about the celebration of abortion that has swept the land. Whatever you think about when to draw the line—I know that for many people there is a time in the development of the fetus where there is a moral case to be made that women should retain the right to refuse to carry an infant to term—no sane person can possibly believe that terminating the life of another innocent human being is a positive good.

Except people do. They laugh and celebrate it.

Unsurprisingly, this attitude no longer stops at birth. There is a new trend I have been disgusted by, and that is women explaining to their social media followers why they have decided to abandon their children in order to pursue their careers.

Children are a burden, and anything that stands in the way of personal empowerment should be rejected.

This is complete moral rot. We have, in a very short time, reached a point where abortion is described as a "superpower," and children are treated as entirely disposable should they get in the way of a person's desires.

We are so far past the point where anybody is arguing that abortion should be "safe, legal, and rare." College students are doing interpretive dances celebrating it, children's books are calling it a "superpower," parents are writing that they wish they had killed their children, and now people are going online to brag that they gave up their children to pursue happiness.

It is demonic. I don't know what other word to use. People who get outraged when a murderer or rapist gets deported will turn around and explain why killing children is a fine thing and really, you know, quite empowering.

No doubt serial killers find it empowering to torture and murder their victims.

What's particularly disturbing is seeing college students laughing about killing children. Who thinks like that?

Brainwashed people.

Mothers abandoning children in search of fulfillment. And bragging about it.

How have we gotten here? Is there any way back?
