There are a million ways that the media shapes The Narrative™, and one of the most powerful is the use of "style guides" that shape the very words and assumptions that can and will be used in any news story. 

Radical left-wing groups are rarely labeled even as liberal, while even the most moderate right-leaning groups are automatically "far-right." Pro-abortion groups are "pro-choice," while pro-life groups are "anti-abortion." Riots are "mostly peaceful" protests, and assaulting law enforcement is done by "Constitutional observers." 

Anthropomorphic climate change is an established fact, with sea level rises swamping coastlines and killing people around the world, while skeptics, even those who acknowledge climate change but dispute the parade of horribles assigned to it are real or devastating are "climate deniers."

And...trans women are "women." People with penises are "women" if they say so, and are labeled as such in the media and now by law enforcement.

Giving massive doses of hormones, surgically mutilating children, and dosing them with powerful mind-altering drugs is "life-saving care."

The language assumes facts not in evidence and that are widely disputed by everybody but the most fanatical alphabet ideologists.

Even the language around "mass shootings" is utterly distorted. When mass shootings are counted for some purposes, gangland killings and drive-by shootings are clustered in with school shootings and mass murders by crazed gunmen. The whole point is to create a sense that the former is common, rather than a rarity, and not coincidentally to hide the fact that a huge fraction of mass shootings in recent years has been committed by transgender people under medical treatment.

Here's what @CTVNationalNews wrote about the 18-year-old male who murdered HIS mother and stepbrother before opening fire at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, killing a teacher and five students between 12 and 13 years old:

"Van Rootselaar was 18 years old at the time of the shooting.

RCMP  said they 'identified the suspect as they chose to be identified in  public and social media,' explaining that Van Rootselaar was born biologically male.

She was a resident of Tumbler Ridge."

Then continued to refer to the young man as "she" for the remainder of the piece.

The language distortion becomes increasingly dramatic over time. Now, men who identify as women are called "female," which is a specific biological term that in no way applies to them. You can't even make the phony claim that gender is not sex. Sex is biological and gender a social construct we were told; now the establishment goes straight to redefining biology itself.

All the talk about a man who identifies as a woman having "female brains" seems a bit odd, given that all these people are pumped full of drugs that alter the mind. They don't have a female brain, but a broken one in need of healing that is being denied them by a medical establishment that willfully denies reality.

There is a word for this misuse of language: lying. It is a very intentional attempt to deceive people into believing falsehoods. And the negative consequences for everybody, including the deluded people who "transition," are devastating. 

The massive propaganda campaign worked for a long time, although a huge number of people is now onto the fact that they are being lied to.

But while there may be a light at the end of the tunnel, it is barely visible and still years away. The momentum for alphabet ideology is immense, and the rearguard fighting from the crazies is still intense.

Just as the public has awakened to the illegal immigration crisis, but the Democratic establishment is fighting to keep every illegal here with an intensity that has left corpses in its wake, the gender ideologists are still fighting and winning many battles.

You cannot debate any issue if you cannot define the terms of the debate, and this is why the left works so hard to shape the acceptable language anybody can use. Defining words creates a de facto "reality," and the media can do so by setting style guides that require that things and events be described only in certain ways.
