WhenI Dream of Jeanniehit the airwaves in September 1965, Larry Hagman‘s Major Nelson couldn’t resist Barbara Eden as the sweet, whimsical genie named Jeannie, and neither could audiences. The show ran for five seasons of magic, mix-ups, and harem pants, and even after it was cancelled in 1970, it remained a staple of reruns and Nick at Nite for decades to come, creating new fans who wished that they too could solve any problem with a head-nod and a blink. Today, Jeannie’s bottle is in the collection of the Smithsonian and Eden, at 93 years old, is still a hit at fan conventions.
