Police Detain Masked Man Outside Ken Paxton Election Night Event, Had Plenty of Ammo

Masked man with ammo detained outside Ken Paxton's Texas primary election night event.

As the crucial primary vote goes down in Texas Tuesday night, with hard-charging GOP Attorney General Ken Paxton facing incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the battle for his Senate seat, a man wearing a camouflage mask was arrested outside of Paxton’s election night viewing party in Dallas.

Rep. Wesley Hunt (TX-38) is also in the GOP race. Currently, Cornyn is in the lead in early counting.

It’s unclear whether the man was planning violence, but there were plenty of signs that indicated it was certainly possible.

It happened outside the hotel where the event was being hosted:

The officers pulled what appeared to be ammunition for several types of weapons from a blue sedan that hotel workers said the man had been driving. He was wearing a camouflage face mask, sunglasses, a hat and gloves as he stood outside the Marriott Dallas Uptown shortly before 6 p.m. Central time.

A member of Mr. Paxton’s campaign said that he had seen the man enter the hotel and asked to use the restroom. The staff member said he had spoken with the man briefly.

Hotel staff members had already been on the alert that this guy could be trouble. He claimed to be an Uber driver but had no license plates? Pretty fishy behavior.

A member of Mr. Paxton’s campaign said that he had seen the man enter the hotel and asked to use the restroom. The staff member said he had spoken with the man briefly.

The staff member, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the unfolding police investigation, said the man told him he was an Uber driver, but the staff member doubted that story, observing that the car he was driving appeared to have no plates.

The police officers searching the car, appeared to also take a license plate from inside the vehicle. They declined to say what the man was being detained for.

It would seem that this moment has been defused, but it had all of the hallmarks of something that could have turned out much worse. Good for the boys in blue, and the hotel staff for being on top of things.
