I heard a saying recently, don't know whom to attribute it to, but it went like this.
"When you sit on the fence, you tend to fall on the side where there are the most people."
That's been the state of the United States for quite a while. Things were going well, particularly under the 45th President. The economy was good, there didn't seem to be any particular reason to be concerned. Yes, there were problems, but overall, with a good economy, people were enjoying life, work, and family. There was fence sitting when it came to serious issues.
Then, there was a shift. It actually wasn't a sudden shift. If you had been watching and studying, you would have realized that it had been in the making a long time... generations really. There were those who had warned of sinister forces underground, of negative forces infiltrating to destroy the country. But, for the most part, the warnings fell on deaf ears. People were called "conspiracy theorists" and what they said was called "conspiracy theory".The fact is, it wasn't a "conspiracy theory". It was actually happening. It is a lot a home infected with carpenter ants or termites. They hide in depths of wood. You don't necessarily know they are there. Then, all of a sudden, you realize, too late, how much damage they have done.
Attributed to Cicero is this quote:
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."
It has been convenient to believe that everyone has been doing their job with the best of intentions and ethics. People are busy. They want to elect officials and trust they will do what they are supposed to do within the confines of the law. They want to trust that those who curate the news are impartial and unbiased.
Unfortunately, there has been a degradation of governmental institutions, including a degradation of attitudes towards law and order. There has been unprofessionalism in media. Many factors working together have dragged the nation down. It is necessary for people to study, to think, and to help put the brakes on against the destructive forces within this nation.
We can no longer sit on the fence hoping someone else will do the right thing. Each of us needs to do what we are individually called to do by the Creator to help preserve Western Civilization. In one of his early speeches in Poland, President Trump said this:
"What we have, what we inherited from our - and you know this better than anybody, and you see it today with this incredible group of people - what we've inherited from our ancestors has never existed to this extent before. And if we fail to preserve it, it will never, ever exist again. So we cannot fail."
It behooves all of us to think carefully about what is happening, to seek out factual news sources, and make choices and commitments to work against the forces seeking to destroy society.
The purpose of these efforts is, as President Abraham Lincoln said,
"that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth".
