Four young men from Venezuela who are likely in America illegally have been accused of viciously attacking a man on a Chicago train last weekend.Around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday‚ several suspects accosted an unidentified 49-year-old man riding the Pink Line train. According to a news release from the Chicago Police Department‚ the suspects robbed and choked the victim near the station at S. Kostner Avenue‚ about seven miles west of downtown.Though police did not immediately provide details regarding the injuries the victim suffered‚ later reports indicated that the man lost consciousness during or shortly after the assault. He has since begun to recover.About 45 minutes after the attack‚ officers apprehended four young men in connection with it: Fernando Loyo-Rodriguez‚ 22‚ Wilker Gutierrez Sierra‚ 21‚ Carlos Carreno-Carreno‚ 20‚ and Yonnier Guasamucare Garcia‚ 18. All are believed to be migrants from Venezuela‚ and all had the same Chicago migrant shelter — the old Standard Club building located on S. Plymouth Court — listed as their home address on the arrest report.Chicago police have not confirmed the men's legal status. Each has been charged with two felonies: robbery and aggravated battery by strangulation. A hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Monday revealed more details about the defendants. According to WGN‚ three of the four have already been arrested and charged with a misdemeanor in connection with an alleged retail theft.The outlet also reported that three of the four face deportation if they are convicted in connection with the train incident.
