DOMESTIC. The police authority is fighting headwinds to bring in more immigrant police officers. Immigrants from the third world do not pass the intelligence test - and now there are demands that the requirements be lowered again.


The police training's first test, for logical thinking and personality traits, sorts out half of the applicants with a foreign background, but only a quarter of those with a Swedish background.

This is reported by SVT Nyheter, which sounds the alarm if it still looks dark for the police's goal to "increase diversity" within the corps. This is despite the fact that intelligence requirements have recently been lowered.

- For the police, it is important that we represent the society in which we operate, it is a matter of credibility, says Max Lutteman in the police's HR department to SVT.

When all tests have been completed, every tenth person with a foreign background has been admitted to the program, compared with every fifth person with a Swedish background.

Anders Sjöberg, associate professor of work psychology, has had several assignments for the police. He suggests introducing language skills in addition to Swedish and English as an additional assessment criterion in the tests.

- You may want more diversity, and that is politically correct to say. But then you have to bring it into the model, says Anders Sjöberg to SVT.
