When Daughter Gets Bullied At Summer Camp, Mom Arranges Best Surprise Ever To Cheer Her Up
Mimi’s daughter, Maya, had a rough time last summer and almost lost her dad. Determined to make this summer better, Mimi decided to give her daughter a summer camp surprise. The hope was that Maya would be distracted and not dwell on the events of last summer. It worked, and she loved the camp.
Maya loved the camp at first, but then some of the other campers started calling her hurtful names for being different. Maya is autistic and has friends who are also on the spectrum. That was her difference. When you’re a parent with an autistic child situations like this can be challenging, but Mimi had an idea. She made a phone call to set up her summer camp surprise for Maya.
@millenynm Last summer was really tough for her; she almost lost her dad. To help her cope this summer, I decided to enroll her in a summer camp to keep her distracted from the events of the previous year. She absolutely loved the camp, but unfortunately, a few kids started calling her hurtful names. To help her feel less alone, I reached out to her best friend’s mom to see if she could sign him up as well, since she hadn’t seen him in a year. She is usually around friends who are also on the spectrum, so this was difficult for both of us. Luckily, Bentley came to the rescue! She has been having an amazing time with him. Honestly, when she’s around him, it feels like no one else exists! #loveonthespectrum #bekind #autismsuperpowers #pureheart #fullofkindness ♬ Bundle of Joy (From “Inside Out”) – Piano Version – Clavier & your movie soundtrack
Maya and her best friend, Bentley, hadn’t seen each other for a year. Bentley’s mom signed him up for the summer camp. The effect was immediate, and the two friends have been having a wonderful time. After posting a video with the two walking toward camp holding hands, Mimi said she would try to offer weekly updates on their camp progress.
The first of those updates didn’t discuss too much, but Mimi posted a video of her showing the kids how many people had seen the first video. The first video reached almost 19 million people. While showing the kids the views, Bentley stated that people don’t understand autism. That young man is wise beyond his years.
@millenynm UPDATE Maya & Bentley Warning Grab some tissues for the end of the video it’s been an emotional ride for us over the past couple of days. We’ve been in tears of joy, no longer of sadness and all thanks to the support we’ve received from all of you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for pouring out your love and encouragement. Just because they might not express their emotions on the outside doesn’t mean they don’t feel deeply. Our hearts are full, and words can hardly capture the happiness that me and his mom have felt recently. Our little ones are not only inspiring hope in other kids with special needs but also offering solace to parents facing similar challenges. We are so grateful for every kind word shared. #loveonthespectrum #bekind #autismsuperpowers #pureheart #fullofkindness It’s amazing to see how much joy this has brought them, even if they don’t fully grasp what being “famous” means just yet especially Maya lol Their excitement about the views is contagious. We truly believe they will help change lives for the better. #loveonthespectrum #purelove #bringbackkindnesstotheworld @paigelachney95 ♬ original sound – ???? ??????? ★
Having Bentley at camp has made Maya’s summer better. He is helping Maya feel more comfortable at camp. This experience will stay with both of them for the rest of their lives.
Please share.
