By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on June 18, 2025 Comment 0 Share New Share The Ursula K. Le Guin Foundation announced its shortlist today for its 2025 Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction: a $25,000 cash award given each year to a work of fiction that best reflects the concepts and ideas central to Le Guin’s work. Here are the eight finalists selected by the foundation after a public nomination process: Rakesfall by Vajra Chandrasekera (Tordotcom Publishing) Archangels of Funk by Andrea Hairston (Tordotcom Publishing) Blackheart Man by Nalo Hopkinson (Saga Press) The Sapling Cage by Margaret Killjoy (Feminist Press) The West Passage by Jared Pechaček (Tordotcom Publishing) The City in Glass by Nghi Vo (Tordotcom Publishing) North Continent Ribbon by Ursula Whitcher (Neon Hemlock) Remember You Will Die by Eden Robins (Sourcebooks Landmark) The winner will be selected by the following authors on the prize’s selection panel: Matt Bell, Indra Das, Kelly Link, Sequoia Nagamatsu, and Rebecca Roanhorse.   The prize’s first year was in 2022, where the foundation sought to recognize “realists of a larger reality, who can imagine real grounds for hope and see alternatives to how we live now.” Last year, Anne de Marcken’s It Lasts Forever and Then It’s Over won the prize, with Rebecca Campbell’s Arboreality winning in 2023.
