It’s almost surprising this concept hasn’t been made into a movie yet: In Horrified, a horror comedy from writer-director Michael Zara, a former scream queen turns to the convention circuit to make a buck—but somebody wearing the iconic mask from the actress’s horror series turns up to cause bloody mayhem.
Please nobody get any ideas, okay? Cons are full of masked fans and I prefer to believe the guy behind the Scream mask isn’t actually doing murders in the bathroom.
Horrified already has a cast: Julie Benz (Dexter, Angel) stars as the “down-on-her-luck scream queen” who turns to convention appearances, “only to find the pig-masked killer from her old franchise weaponizing her cult legacy against her friends and fans, forcing her to confront past demons and fight for survival in a blood-soaked slasher showdown,” as Deadline explains.
Benz will be joined by Ron Perlman (Hellboy; The Capture, pictured above), Busy Philipps (Girls5eva), and Jim Rash (who voices the Riddler on Harley Quinn). None of their roles have been announced.
Writer-director Zara was a writer on the series Major Crimes, and also wrote the Syfy movie Letters to Satan Claus. Horrified is set to film this summer; no release date has been announced.[end-mark]
