The Cabana Blue Lakefront Sport Bar & Grill in Clay Township, Michigan offers patrons a beautiful view of Lake St. Clair. Recently, however, that very same scenic area briefly turned into the site of a helicopter crash. The pilot, whose name has not been released, called the restaurant ahead of time to ensure it would be safe to land near it. While the restaurant’s owner, Joseth Henninger, did warn of debris in the field, the pilot assured him that “if it’s not good” he wouldn’t land. Upon arriving, the pilot seemed to have located a good spot to land. Considering the fact that he did reach the ground, that may have been true. None of the four people on board the helicopter, nor anybody on the ground, were injured, St. Clair County Emergency Director Justin Westmiller told #ABCNews. This led to a number of people warning others to “Get down.” Then there were those who saw the crash as it happened. While some of them were understandably shocked, others found the courage to run directly toward the crash. Restaurant Patrons Capture the Moment a Nearby Helicopter Flips Over with a Loud Crash Despite any fears these heroic patrons may have had, they did everything they could to help rescue everyone inside the helicopter. Best of all, they were successful in their mission. The pilot and all four passengers were safely removed from the vehicle. Despite how violent this crash seemed, miraculously, those onboard only received minor injuries. Plus, there were no bystander injuries. It remains unclear exactly what happened to cause this crash. One patron, Valerie DiBattista, says that the “tail end of the helicopter flew up, causing the blades of the helicopter to touch the ground.” In any case, an investigation is underway by the Federal Aviation Administration.
