UTL harvests his JERUSALEM ARTICHOKE (Sunchokes) at home
GUYS IT'S THE WEEKEND COMING!!! START PLANNING FOR A POSSIBLE APOCALYPSE!!
GROW VEGGIES IT'S PEACEFUL AND ALOT OF FUN AND VERY REWARDING! I LOVE THE FEELING OF INDEPENDENCE!! I could convert my entire back garden into a veggie garden if need be!!!!! I am planned and ready for that! Are you?
This video is my harvest from 2 small plants.
Not a bad harvest at all from 2 plants. One was healthy and the other quite sickly. When making the video I didn't know why, however after making the video I realised what was causing the problem with the 2nd plant - it had an infestation of native cockroaches within the soil that were burrowing into the tubers....
The cheeky buggers I will have to do something about that...!
So....this is a small harvest only 2 plants however I have just planted 25 mini tubers from this harvest as each one of those tubers can grow and so next season I will have a mega harvest!!!
The taste is an acquired taste however I can get used to it. Kind of a meaty flavour which is OK.
How to eat? You can eat them raw or even my wife made a pumpkin / sunchoke 50:50 ration soup out of them!!
Really smooth and delicious!!
I am thinking of foods and have a high production volume / m3 of land and easy to care for. They also have to be filling. Can be semi-perennials.
For me it's potatoes / sunchokes and corn (except corn is not so good in winter).
