The Chicago White Sox shared heartbreaking news about a retired member of the ball club. Bobby Jenks, who played for the Sox from 2005 to 2010, passed away. Sadly, the pitcher died on July 4 following a cancer battle.
“Former Chicago White Sox All-Star pitcher and 2005 World Series Champion Bobby Jenks passed away yesterday, July 4, in Sintra, Portugal, where he had been battling adenocarcinoma, a form of stomach cancer. He was 44 years old,” a statement on X reads.

Bobby Jenks Retired In 2011 After An Impressive Career
Major League Baseball shared some of Bobby Jenks’ career highlights in a memorial post on X.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Major League pitcher Bobby Jenks. Jenks pitched for the White Sox from 2005 until 2010 and for the Red Sox in 2011. In his time in Chicago, Jenks amassed 173 saves, including back-to-back seasons of 40+ saves in 2006 and 2007,” MLB shared. “Jenks was named an American League All-Star in both of those seasons; Jenks was on the mound as the White Sox recorded the final out of the 2005 World Series, which finished off the 4-game sweep of the Houston Astros and secured the franchise’s first World Series championship since 1917. Jenks was battling adenocarcinoma, a form of stomach cancer. He was 44 years old.”
The news of Bobby Jenks’ death saddened baseball fans.
“Rip, Jenks was a no nonsense player. I enjoyed watching him pitch. I think the kids would say he had the dog in him,” a fan posted.
“Jenks was an absolute beast. As a Cubs fan, I was jealous of the White Sox for having him. Had no idea he was going through this. Obviously far too young, and an awful battle for he and his loved ones to go through. Rest in Peace, legend,” another baseball enthusiast recalled.
Bobby Jenks was 44. He leaves behind his wife, Eleni Tzitzivacos, and his six children Cuma, Nolan, Rylan, Jackson, Zeno, and Kate.
