Heroes: Boaters Rescue Sea Turtle Helplessly Tangled In Fishing Net
When TikTok user Bianca was out on a boat for an afternoon on the water, her group spotted something unusual. It was a wadded-up lump of netting. At one end, they noticed a sea turtle caught in the netting and struggling. They wasted no time springing into action to rescue the sea turtle.

Pulling alongside the bundle of netting, Bianca’s dad reached down to grasp the netting. Using a knife, he began to cut the strands that were trapping the turtle quickly. The turtle started to struggle a bit, not realizing they were helping him.
The man was careful not to nick the turtle as he cut through strand after strand. He was finally able to complete the rescue of the sea turtle. He lifted the turtle into the boat for a quick visual check. Once he was sure the turtle was otherwise not injured, he released it on the opposite side of the boat. The sea turtle hesitated for a brief second before the man nudged his bum, and he raced off underwater.

Although they don’t always record their rescues, this appears to be a common adventure for the father-daughter pair. Sea turtles and other marine life have been rescued from similar ocean debris. With so many hazards in the water, sea turtle rescue often falls upon people on the water for recreation. These unsung heroes free countless victims of litter, old fishing nets, and many other hazards annually.
Many of us recall the old advertising campaigns that encouraged us to cut through the plastic six-pack rings before disposing of them. That one small task saved many marine animals, but we still need to be more diligent in keeping our waterways cleaner.
