Ella Langley Says Viral Pot-Stirring Video Featuring Kaitlin Butts’ “You Ain’t Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)” Was Completely Innocent

The truth comes out. Around the time of the ACM Awards in May, rumors started swirling about what may or may not be going on between Riley Green, Megan Moroney and Ella Langley… a classic love triangle, if you will. It first started when fans were convinced that Riley and Ella, duet partners on the hit “You Look Like You Love Me,” were an item, or had at least some sort of fling or something of that nature. They shut that idea down pretty much from the get go, and Riley has said before that Ella is “too smart” to date him, adding that they knew going into it that the song would cause conversation about their relationship status. They were fully expecting fans to embrace the love story, or the idea of it, the same way they did for legendary country music couples like George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Ella herself said many times that they were just very good friends, but it still wasn’t enough to convince the world that they were not together, and rumors continued for months about the two of them, until Megan got involved due to some vacation breadcrumbs where she was seemingly with Riley. Moroney confirmed they happened to be on vacation in the same place, but also shut down the thought that they were seeing each other in a romantic capacity. “He was individually on his vacation with his friends. St. Barts is a popular place! It’s one of those things where if you know someone on a small island, you’re like, ‘Oh, s***, you’re here too.’ So it was fun. Just because we’re hanging out doesn’t mean we’re romantically dating. You know what I mean?” As a result of all of this, people thought that Ella and Megan might have some drama going on too, and there were countless videos where fans were explaining their theories about this non-existent love triangle, and it got really out of hand… but Ella only added fuel to the online rumors when she shared a video using sound from Kaitlin Butts’ song “You Ain’t Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)” which includes the lines: “I think I have heard of that man, I think I heard he got run over by a train, Mauled by a bear, maybe, hopefully You ain’t gotta die to be dead to me” She was in her kitchen, literally stirring a pot with some kind of sauce, while mouthing the words with a whole lot of sass… keep in mind, this was at the height of all the rumors about her, Megan and Riley: @ellalangleymusic1 @kaitlinbutts ♬ You Ain’t Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me) – Kaitlin Butts Of course, fans were in overdrive trying to figure out what it meant, and that video was viewed over 10 million times… but during a recent interview where Ella addressed why she winked at a sign that read “Wink if Riley’s a dumb***” during a concert, she also talked about the aforementioned TikTok video. Ella explained that fans made it seem “way more clever” than she had intended, and she really just wanted to use the Kaitlin Butts audio to support her friend. Though, she also admitted that she could see how fans interpreted it the way they did, and it’s now one of the most viewed videos on her TikTok: “That was way more clever than I had intentionally intended. No, I was making ravioli and I saw a couple people do the sound of that TikTok, and I was like, I love Kaitlin Butts. I’m such a massive fan of her. Talk about who is like, in on their artistry. She is like, in every aspect what she does and she really works her a** off, I mean really does. I respect her a lot. But everyone was doing that song, I was making myself ravioli, and I just did the song. I think if I did any TikTok talking about anything with a relationship, I think that’s just what they’re gonna gravitate towards. I mean, that’s just what it is. That’s our life right now. We’re on tour, we have these two songs together, and we’re also in the entertainment industry. So I think it’s, you know, it’s entertaining to be like, ‘Oh, they’re doing this, or they’re doing that.’ And then, when they said stir the pot, I was like, I can see how y’all would think that… that that’s what I was trying to do. I could see that. And that was one of the most viewed TikTok’s on my TikTok.” There you have it, folks… it’s gotta be annoying to have people scrutinize with a magnifying glass every single move you make, but unfortunately, she’s right in that fans will probably continue to do that when it comes to her dating life no matter who it involves. You can watch her talk about it here: @elainadsmith I mean, she ain’t wrong about @kaitlinbutts @Ella Langley is with me all week on @Backstage Country !! #ellalangley #countrymusic ♬ You Ain’t Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me) – Kaitlin Butts Hey, at least 10 million people got to hear this banger because of it, and now, Kaitlin officially has her first song on the Billboard Country Airplay Chart.
