Too bad it looks like no fun was had while making this album. We are in the single-digit days until the release of Tyler Childers‘ record Snipe Hunter. Timmy Ty Childers is soon gifting fans with a 13-track record. Leading up to the full tracklist reveal, fans were convinced it would be a record full of songs from the vault. With his album trailers giving nods to songs from the fault and the lead single being “Nose On The Grindstone,” this just fueled that suspicion even more. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tyler Childers (@timmytychilders) Rather, “Oneida” and “Grindstone” are the only two old fan favorites; “Snipe Hunt” has been played a few times live, but doesn’t quite have the lore of the other two. But the rest are brand-spankin’ new. For Snipe Hunter, Childers teamed up with the legendary producer and guru, Rick Rubin, who’s worked with everyone from Beastie Boys and Run DMC to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Metallica, and even the Dixie Chicks. The album also features production from Tyler himself, as well as Sylvan Esso’s Nick Sanborn. Ahead of the album’s announcement, RCA Chairman and CEO Peter Edge said the project will “defy expectations,” and I think we can see why: “I’m really excited about Tyler Childers’ new album, which is produced by Rick Rubin. He defies expectations, and this new album goes even further. The great thing about Tyler is that he does it the way he wants to do it. He’s playing giant venues, and he’s making the music he wants to make.” While we fans anxiously await the album’s release, Tyler Childers is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at how these songs came to life. In a recent social media post, Childers shares snippets of songs as they were being cut in the studio. While it’s hard to decipher which songs these snippets belong to, my ears are pleased with what they are hearing. We also get a cameo from Rick Rubin himself, guiding Childers through his vocals and explaining how they will sound once the melody is laid over them. This short snippet of Rubin showcases the certified “vibe” master and studio guru that he is. If you’re reading that and laughing, it’s no joke. He has a natural ability to help artists channel their inner creativity, stripping away all distractions and noise. The entire record-making process is almost a spiritual experience.
