UPDATE: LAPD Reports Driver Who Plowed Into Los Angeles Crowd Did It “Intentionally”
As the WLT Report previously reported, a driver plowed into a busy crowd in Los Angeles, resulting in over 30 people injured.
The incident occurred outside of a nightclub in East Hollywood.
The Los Angeles Police Department now reports that they believe the driver’s action was intentional.
LAPD also revealed that the driver who drove into the crowd was dragged out of his car and shot by a bystander who was in the crowd.
NBC News had the update on the incident:
A man was dragged from his car by enraged bystanders and shot after police said he intentionally plowed a vehicle into a crowd in Los Angeles, leaving seven people critically injured and at least 23 others hurt outside a nightclub early Saturday morning.
Cameras in the area are still being canvassed, but the incident appears to have been intentional, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Patrol officers with the LAPD responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon in East Hollywood near the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard at around 2 a.m.
“When officers arrived, they found the driver being assaulted by bystanders and determined he had sustained a gunshot wound,” the LAPD said in an update.
LAPD Sgt. Travis Ward said the driver was shot after the collision, transported to the hospital and taken into surgery. For this reason, he said, the LAPD was unable to determine whether the driver was intoxicated.
The LAPD described the person who shot the driver as “a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 180 pounds, bald, wearing a blue jersey, and possibly armed with a silver revolver.” The man fled the scene on foot and was last seen going westbound from Vermont Avenue, the LAPD said.

The Washington Post reported that no fatalities occurred:
A driver intentionally rammed a car into a crowd in East Hollywood after a dispute inside a nightclub early Saturday morning, injuring 30 before being shot, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Sgt. Horacio Aguirre, the on-duty Central Traffic Division watch commander, told The Washington Post that the driver had been fighting with several people inside the Vermont Hollywood, a nightclub on Santa Monica Boulevard. The suspect, a Hispanic male, then exited the music venue around 2 a.m., got inside his vehicle and “decided for whatever reason that he was going to run over the people on the sidewalk,” Aguirre said.
No fatalities have been reported, Aguirre said. Seven people were in critical condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
