But where the faeries lead you, if the trailer released today is any indication, appears to be quite fucked up and hazardous for human life. The movie is the theatrical debut for writer-director Bryn Chainey and stars Dev Patel (The Green Knight), Rosy McEwen (The Alienist, Apartment 7A), and Jade Croot (The Witcher). Here’s the official synopsis: Darcy (Patel) and Daphne (McEwen) Davenport are freshly decamped from London and taking up residence in an isolated cottage deep in the Welsh countryside in search of creative renewal and acoustic inspiration. When the couple set about exploring their new environs, recording instruments in tow, Darcy stumbles upon a “faerie circle” that emits a strange, unidentifiable frequency; this odd discovery is followed closely by the appearance of an otherworldly child (Croot) who claims to live nearby and is eager to befriend the Davenports. Soon the child becomes a fixture in their household, alternately ingratiating himself and raising suspicions, and exposing unacknowledged rifts and unexamined secrets that threaten to wreak psychological and spiritual havoc in the lives of his makeshift adoptive parents.  “It’s a quiet miracle that this film exists: an earthy, sound-driven psychological thriller that takes its cues from Celtic folklore and bends genre expectations,” said Chainey in a statement. He later added that the film is an “attempt to reach out to those who may be plagued by trauma and its effects, or those who seek to understand it, and to say to them, with a cinematic experience that is often wordless: You are not alone.” Rabbit Trap premieres in theaters on September 12, 2025.
