Mom Asks Girl With Severe Hay Fever How She’s Enjoying The Weather — Her Response Is Hilarious
Runny eyes, nose, and general misery are the common companions of hay fever sufferers. Emma Nicolet’s daughter, Barley, can tell you all about the agony of hay fever. She did just that during a brief conversation with her mom. The girl, in the throes of a major hay fever attack, with runny eyes, congestion, and outright misery, manages to maintain her sense of humor.
Barley is 9 years old and answered her mom’s questions with jokes of her own. When asked how she was enjoying the “lovely” weather, Barley answered, “Oh my God, it’s fantastic.”
Emma, continuing, then asked the obviously suffering girl, “How’s your hay fever?” Emma responded sarcastically that she forgot about it. Then Emma asked, “Do you want to scoop your eyeballs out and rinse them?” Barley returned with a look that said more than her words, “Oh, yeah.”
Hay fever affects an estimated 13 million people in the UK. At least Barley isn’t suffering alone. There are three pollen seasons in the UK: tree pollen, grass pollen, and weed pollen. Predictions are that tree pollen will be worse than normal this year. The typical season runs from March through May or June, but some trees produce pollen as early as January.

It is easy to see where Barley gets her sense of humor. One commenter asked, “Why would you call someone Barley? Are her siblings called Wheat and Rice?” Not missing a beat, Emma responded, “Lentil and Mungbean.”
If you have hay fever, you can sympathize with this young girl. For more of this hilarious family, you can follow Emma on Instagram, where she calls herself a “Joyfluencer.” You can follow her podcast, You’re Never the Only One.
