Too Cute: Bird Feeder Footage Captures Cardinal Dad Carefully Feeding Fledgling Baby
Every day, we see parents helping their children in public spaces. The same things happen with animals, although we don’t see them as often. When parents feed their kids sunflower seeds, they will crack the shell and offer the kernel to the child. It was by sheer luck that a Brookville, Florida, resident caught an endearing scene on their birdfeeder camera. A male cardinal is cracking the shell of a sunflower seed and feeding the kernel to a baby cardinal.

As you go about your day, you might see a million examples of a parent helping their child. A dad pushing his daughter on a swing, or a mom helping a toddler climb the short ladder to the slide. Parents open snack containers, they hold their child’s hand crossing streets, or carry them when they’re tired. As you witness these moments, think about this kind and gentle cardinal feeding his baby and smile.
Cardinals mate for life, so if you frequently see an adult male in your yard, his mate is somewhere nearby. They don’t migrate, so you may see that striking red male against a white backdrop of snow on any given day. Cardinals seem to love sunflower seeds. Like many bird species, the male is the more brightly-colored of the pair. Female cardinals are rusty, reddish-brown with some red highlights.
@katiekreen Have you ever wondered what a juvenile (fresh from the nest) cardinal looks like? Well, if so it’s your lucky day! Watch and find out…they are the cutest little goons ever. #fyp ♬ original sound – Ryan
The female stays on the nest during incubation and when the baby cardinals hatch. The male gathers all the food and sustenance for the mated pair during that period. Once the baby cardinals fledge (learn to fly), both parents will accompany them on excursions and take an active role in feeding them.
Consider adding sunflower seeds to your backyard feeder to attract cardinals.
