You Have More Chances to See Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles—and Its Sequel!—on the Big Screen

News Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles You Have More Chances to See Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles—and Its Sequel!—on the Big Screen Never underestimate turtle power. The 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film was supposed to get just a two-night 35th anniversary re-release in theaters—but you demanded more. Deadline reports that Fathom Events has extended the film’s run for a whole ’nother week. And what’s more, the sequel is coming: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze will skate into theaters in March 2026. The Secret of the Ooze does not star Elias Koteas, so I never watched it. It does, however, star a young Paige Turco as April O’Neil. Turco is perhaps better known in these times as beleaguered mom Abby from The 100. TMNT II also stars the excellent character actor François Chau as Shredder. You may also know Chau as The Expanse’s Jules-Pierre Mao, or as Walter in The Tick, though he has also been in an episode of just about everything. Vanilla Ice also appears. The New York Times was dry but not quite negative about The Secret of the Ooze, with Janet Maslin writing, Purists may complain that the Turtles fight less, clown more and stray too far from their beloved sewers. But for anyone else these are definite improvements, as are the more varied settings, the upgrading of the Turtles’ friend April O’Neil, the presence of at least one actor (David Warner) whom parents in the audience stand a chance of recognizing, and the treatment of Ninja fight scenes as the playful dance sequences that they essentially are. If the Turtles insist on remaining a mainstream box-office attraction, at least they’ve now had the decency to make a mainstream movie. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Their second cinematic outing was directed by Michael Pressman, who also directed Vanilla Ice’s related video for “Ninja Rap.” (He has since gone on to direct episodes of an incredible list of lawyer and/or cop dramas, including Law & Order, Blue Bloods, Elementary, The Closer, and also Weeds.) Secret of the Ooze writer Todd W. Langen has only a few other credits, but they include the first TMNT movie and a few episodes of The Wonder Years. You can catch TMNT in theaters through August 28th. Presumably one should watch the sewers for news of the sequel’s anniversary screenings.[end-mark] The post You Have More Chances to See Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles—and Its Sequel!—on the Big Screen appeared first on Reactor.
