He seemed to be targeting their almost tame squirrel friend. That wasn’t cool, so they started keeping a closer eye out. After messing with the family’s little animal friend, the hawk perched briefly on the edge of the pool. Then he hopped down onto some pool noodles lying next to the filter unit. He grabbed a water ball with his left foot. Stepping back, he tried to act nonchalant. Next, he grabbed the water ball again and perched on the back of a camp chair sitting nearby. Giving the area a scan to ensure no one was watching, he flew to a nearby tree with his prize. Image from TikTok. Water balls are sponges covered with cloth meant to get wet. When dry, they weigh very little. When put in the pool, they soak up water, and kids can throw them at each other. They splat on contact and are pretty fun pool toys for kids. We’re not sure what the young hawk plans to do with it. The material and sponge are not normal nest-making materials.
