ADL Labels “Hail Christ” or Writing “83” As Hate Speech by Racist White Supremacists
I wouldn’t believe this if I didn’t see it with my own eyes, but the ADL (Anti-Defamation League) has labeled saying “Hail Christ” or writing the number 83 as hate speech used by, and I quote: “adherents of the racist and antisemitic religious sect known as Christian Identity…which I realize sounds quite “Defamatory” to me, but I don’t make the rules!
Take a look for yourself:
According to the ADL, saying “Hail Christ” or writing 83 is Hate Speech by Racist White Supremacists

I confirmed it for myself by going directly to their website and searching for “83”.
Pops right up:
HOLY CRAP! The “ADL” labels Christianity as “racist and antisemitic”.“83 is a white supremacist numeric symbol that stands for “Heil Christ” or “Hail Christ” (the eighth letter of the alphabet is H and the third letter is C, thus 83 is “HC”). It is typically used by… pic.twitter.com/K498vQPVsX

Here’s a screenshot I took of the page:
SOURCE: https://adl.org/resources/hate-symbol/83
Full quote:
83 is a white supremacist numeric symbol that stands for “Heil Christ” or “Hail Christ” (the eighth letter of the alphabet is H and the third letter is C, thus 83 is “HC”). It is typically used by adherents of the racist and antisemitic religious sect known as Christian Identity. The symbol derives from the older white supremacist numeric symbol 88 (“Heil Hitler”). As they do with 88, white supremacists sometimes pair 83 with the number 14 (a reference to the so-called “Fourteen Words” slogan), creating numeric phrases such as “14/83.”
Some adherents of the white supremacist Creativity Movement have also used this numeric symbol, claiming that it stands for “Hail Creativity,” but this usage is not that common.
Now let’s go deeper because I don’t like to just leave things at surface level.
What is “Christian Identity”?
Well, I’ve actually never heard of it before, so I asked ChatGPT and this is what it told me:
“Christian Identity” is not a mainstream Christian denomination. It is a racially based religious ideology that emerged in the United States in the 20th century. Here are the key points:
Core Beliefs
White supremacy: It teaches that white Europeans (especially Anglo-Saxons, Celts, and related groups) are the true descendants of the Biblical Israelites.
Anti-Semitism: It often claims that modern Jews are impostors with no true connection to Biblical Israel, sometimes teaching they are descended from Satan or non-human lineages.
Exclusivism: Salvation, according to this theology, is limited to whites—other races are considered inferior or excluded.
Apocalyptic outlook: Many adherents believe the end times will involve a race-based conflict in which whites triumph under God’s guidance.
Origins
Developed in the early to mid-20th century, growing out of earlier movements like British Israelism, which taught that the British people descended from the lost tribes of Israel.
Over time, American proponents twisted it into a more extreme, racist doctrine.
Associations
Christian Identity has been influential in parts of the white supremacist and militia movements in the U.S.
It has inspired violent groups and lone actors who use its theology to justify acts of hate.
Mainstream Christianity’s View
Virtually all Christian denominations reject Christian Identity as heretical, unbiblical, and contrary to the teachings of Jesus, who emphasized salvation for all nations and peoples.
Have you ever heard of it before?
