As the WLT Report previously covered, on Monday, ICE arrested Kilmar Abrego-Garcia shortly after he checked into an ICE agency office in Baltimore. Kilmar Abrego Garcia has recently made major headlines over the last month after the Trump administration deported him to El Salvador, only to be later brought back to the United States. While being arrested, Kilmar said that the government is corrupt. The 30-year-old Salvadoran national is back in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, after showing up for an ICE interview in Maryland on Monday morning and getting detained. He faces the possibility of being deported to Uganda, but the Trump administration said they would send him to Costa Rica if he pleaded guilty to human smuggling, according to his lawyer. A federal judge ruled on Monday that the Trump administration cannot deport him to Uganda, according to The Associated Press. U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis, an Obama-appointed judge, mandated this order. The footage shared by the Department of Homeland Security showed Abrego Garcia walking through an ICE field office with the caption, “He doesn’t belong here. He won’t be staying here. America is a safer nation without this MS-13 Gangbanger in it. Good riddance.” He is heard saying, “gobierno corrupto,” which translates to corrupt government, as he walks towards the elevators. When he was detained Monday during a check-in with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in Baltimore, the 72-hour countdown began for Abrego Garcia’s potential deportation to Uganda. Abrego Garcia filed a new lawsuit in the state’s federal district court shortly after he was detained. Later that same day, Judge Paula Xinis said she would issue an order to keep him in the country while she reviewed the challenge. He will remain in the custody of U.S. Marshals as lawyers for him and the U.S. Justice Department argue whether he will be deported upon his release from federal custody. Another hearing in the case is tentatively scheduled for Friday, though exact details are not yet known.
