The school shooter who took the lives of two young children and injured many others today at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis has just been identified as Robin Westman. Reportedly, he was a mentally-ill transgender male in his early 20s. But he started identifying as a “transgender” while still a minor and officially changed his name to “Robin” in 2020. After carrying out the horrific attack on the Catholic school, Robin Westman took his own life. Per NBC News: Police believe the suspect was a lone shooter in his 20s who died of a self-inflicted gunshot in the parking lot. NBC News also says that he has a “limited criminal history”: The suspected gunman in today’s shooting has been identified as Robin Westman, multiple senior law enforcement officials briefed on the matter told NBC News. Police have said publicly that the suspect is in their early 20s with a limited criminal history. NBC News has confirmed with those law enforcement officials that the suspect left behind multiple videos posted online with writings that reference suicide, “extremely violent thoughts and ideas,” an apology to their family, and a hand-written sketch of the interior layout of a church. It’s unclear whether that church was the one at Annunciation Catholic School. The New York Post has more: The school shooter in Minneapolis who killed two children and injured at least 17 others has been identified as law enforcement investigates an apparent manifesto possibly linked to the suspect, sources confirmed to The Post. Robin Westman, who is in his early 20s, opened fire through the stained glass windows of Annunciation Catholic Church during a celebratory back-to-school Mass filled with children, around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police are investigating whether a sick 20-minute YouTube video shared on an account hours before the shooting was connected to Westman. In the video, a hand slowly turns the pages of a red notebook, which is laid out on top of what appears to be schematic gun diagrams. Each page is filled with inscrutable handwritten scrawl, an occasional plume of smoke is seen from the bottom of the screen as the person turning the pages coughs and occasionally maniacally giggles. At this time, two children — ages 8 and 10 — have been killed in the shooting. 17 other victims, including 14 children, were also injured. Two are still in critical condition at the hospital.
