Country & Blues Singer, Nat Myers, Gives Fans A Cancer Update: “Feeling Better Than Ever & I Intend To Stay That Way”
Nat Myers is giving fans an update on his stage four cancer.
Earlier this year, the country and blues musician from Kentucky shared the heartbreaking news that he’d been diagnosed with a rare type of cancer, with a grim prognosis. The announcement came after Myers had to cancel a few shows due to a sudden hospitalization, but he did not give fans very much information about what led to that initial hospitalization.
After that announcement came the heartbreaking news that he had been diagnosed with stage four sarcoma.
“As many of you all know I have been laid low by a rare cancer called a sarcoma. What I thought was a prolonged lung infection turned out to be much more sinister, with growth around my heart and pulmonary artery. On February 9th I entered the ER & have been in the hospital ever since. Doctors of varying humanity have given me days, or weeks to live, but I live by my odds and not theirs. I am currently looking for the next opportunities to overcome this cool deck of cards I’ve been dealt. I’ve been taken off most my IV’s, and gotten off a lot of the drugs they had me on.
I’m feeling better than I have since I entered this facility, and am hoping to continue my next step into my recovery and my future as a survivor. I am taking things day by day and conserving and building the energy I need to overcome this affliction. I refuse to speak from the past past tense, because there is beauty and life in the struggle I am currently fighting, and I will overcome this. My next quest is to access/gain contact with as many cancer facilities to access more proper care for what I need to succeed over this cancer. I do not know how long this fight will take, but I know so long as my heart beats I will overcome this.
I hate to ask anything from anybody, but with needing to cancel all my shows this year, I know I will need help from the community that I love and that loves me in return. If you have something to spare, please consider donating to the GoFundMe in my bio. The money will go to the unforeseen medical expenses that will accrue for the fight. This is my only GoFundMe, & any others do not have my permission & should be reported.

Since this post, Myers’ GoFundMe has raised over 230k for the singer-songwriter, and he’s defied the odds of his initial diagnosis. In the post, doctors told him that he had a week at best to live in February, but earlier this week, he shared an update with fans of some good news.
Myers shared that he recently visited the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for a second opinion. While the doctors there still do not have a cure for him, they offered additional testing that can help better identify a treatment path to continue shrinking his tumors.
“For one, my primary oncologist at OSU has only seen 3 people with my cancer, & none with an advanced stage as mine. Dr. Kentsis and Dr. Gounder at MSK have seen “dozens and dozens” of people fighting this fight. My blood was taken, and I have been enrolled in genetic tests that are available only at MSK, with more to come. Dr. Kentsis described 3 genes they were looking at in particular, that seems to tell my cancer to continue to grow, like antennas. He said that the human book is about 20,000 genes, or words, long, & that the test they want to do on me maps out 600 of those genes—not the most, but something. Dr. Gounder expressed that they have ways to map out all 20,000 of my genes, but that’s talk for the future.
Because my tumors appear to be responding to the chemo, they want me to keep the course as it is with OSU. But they said that as trials present themselves, & as the tumors shrink, isolated therapies & more options, are already in their pipeline, & part of the plan they are mapping out for me.”
Myers shared that while he’s facing hardships right now, he’s also having to be there for his parents, who are also having issues with their health. Myers just started his third round of chemo and is hoping that it continues to fight off his cancer and shrink the masses.
However, his doctors have said that they are on it when it comes to fighting his cancer, and his main job is to keep making music. We all know that music is healing, and it sounds like his medical team is encouraging him to lean into the creative outlet to keep his mind sharp and maintain the strength to fight.
“They told me my current job right now in this cancer fight is making music, & to ‘leave the cancer’ for them to fight. They said that instead of just a plan A, B, and C, there are a lot of plans they’ve been considering for my fight. So I’m gonna do just that, & keep making great music… I am the strongest person I know, & I will persevere even with this struggle on top of my fighting & beating this cancer. I’ll keep my Zen & keep the course. I’m feeling better than ever & I intend to stay that way a long time comin’.”
In the images that Myers shared with this update, he looks strong and healthy and there is a glow in his eyes that lets fans know he will keep fighting this horrible cancer for as long as he can.

We are all with you, Nat Myers, and keep praying for you during this fight. He’s defied the odds so far, and I hope he keeps defying them.
For any readers unfamiliar with Nat Myers and his music: Myers is a country and blues musician of Korean-American descent who hails from Northern Kentucky. Enrolled in the school band by his parents at a young age, Myers initially disliked playing music throughout most of his adolescence. However, he became infatuated with classic poetry in upper-level English classes and soon realized that blues music was the perfect outlet for sharing his own poetry and stories. It wasn’t until 2021 that Myers began releasing his own music, and in 2023, he released his debut record, Yellow Peril. Myers came out of the gate swinging with Yellow Peril, and it is a true statement of the incredible talent he is.
