Farmer Uses Potatoes To Impart Silly Wisdom About Life
Potatoes were first grown and harvested in Peru by the Incas. We don’t imagine anyone learned that in history, as it was between 8,000 BC and 5,000 BC. They weren’t brought to Europe until the mid-1500s, when Spanish Conquistadors introduced them. They made their way to the Americas in the 1620s when the governor of the colony of Virginia received a gift box from the Governor of the Bahamas. Today, the potato is being used to impart a bit of wisdom from a farmer.

If all you heard was, “Don’t be a couch potato,” you missed the main bit of wisdom the farmer was relaying. The farmer’s message begins, “If you think about giving up, just think about the potatoes.” As he continues, you may have wondered where he was going with the saga. “They grow up in total darkness, and in a while, they feed everyone. So next time you are feeling of giving up so please be like potato.”
After the farmer passes on his wisdom, he reminds us not to be like the couch potato, who just sits by the TV and eats the other potatoes.
The farmer is a Slavic immigrant who is enjoying life and loves sharing his wisdom. The farm, located in East Hampton, New York, is small and operates on the farm-to-table principle. He shares his tip for defeating depression by growing vegetables. Carrying a basket of cabbage, he says that growing food heals depression.
