First, he rang a light bell, letting the trailing rider there was someone behind their group. After receiving acknowledgement that they saw him, he held back to allow them to prepare. The horses either moved to the right or completely off the trail.
The bike rider told them to let him know when it was safe to pass. They did, and he proceeded slowly, staying as far left as possible. He thanked them for allowing him to pass. One of the horses was skittish, and he apologized for startling it. Once he was beyond the last horse rider, the bike rider resumed his normal speed.
This same trail etiquette can be applied to almost any situation when you are passing anyone. If you are a runner, give the same courtesy to a person walking a dog or just a hiker on the trail. No matter what the circumstances, when passing someone on a trail, it pays to be considerate.
The Orange Helmet Guy is a social media influencer who rides a bike everywhere. He shares tips on bike safety, like the importance of wearing a helmet and gloves. His journeys take him on all types of terrain, and he meets plenty of people and animals along the way. If you happen to see him on your own journeys, offer him a friendly wave. Above all, remember his lesson on being courteous. Kindness will always pay dividends.
