NFL Wide Receiver Saves A Truckful Of Dogs Slated For Euthanasia
Khalil Shakir, a Buffalo Bills wide receiver, is known for far more than what he’s able to accomplish on the football field. For example, he absolutely loves animals. So much so, in fact, he took action to ensure dogs at a local shelter avoided being euthanized. His most recent act of kindness took place on August 31. Clarke Country Animal Shelter was set to euthanize a number of dogs, but Shakir stepped in first.
With the help of a rescue group, Shakir was able to transport 19 dogs to Nickel City Canine Rescue. As a result, these sweet dogs won’t have to worry. In other words, Shakir truly helped save their lives! Check out the video below to get a peak at Shakir, and the adorable rescue dogs, in action.

It turns out, Nickel City Canine Rescue holds an extra special place in Shakir’s heart. Just last year, his very own family adopted a dog from there. They named the dog Missy, a fitting name for the sweet and adorable pup.

Now, thanks to Shakir’s help, more dogs like Missy will have a chance at finding their own forever homes. Best of all, this isn’t the first time he’s done something like this. Back in May, he helped rescue 26 dogs in this same situation.
Shakir’s love for animals is so heartwarming. Just the day before this rescue mission, he was at a large pet adoption event that was held by the Shakir Family Foundation. It was at this event that the football player was told about the opportunity to work with Nickel City Canine Rescue again.
“[Shakir’s] eyes lit up!” a representative for Nickel City Canine Rescue said about giving Shakir the news. “He said he would love to come help again.”
