Music Legend Sits Down For Rare Interview Discussing Cancer Diagnosis

Bruce Dickinson joined the rock band Iron Maiden in 1981 as the band’s lead vocalist. The band went on to become one of the biggest names in heavy metal history. But in 2014, Bruce faced a setback that threatened to end his career. A throat cancer diagnosis left his voice fragile, but Bruce was determined to continue performing. He shared his incredible story with The Charismatic Voice on YouTube. Per a transcript from Female First, Bruce had a significant tumor. “It was a golf ball living in the base of my tongue, and then there was a strawberry, a two-and-a-half-centimeter in the lymph node on the other side,” he explained. Bruce Dickinson Was Anxious To Get Back To Work Bruce Dickinson explained that he was eager to get back to work. “I’m the world’s most impatient man, and I tried to sing after about six months, and I was shocked how awful it sounded,” he recalled. Bruce admitted he tried to get back to singing too soon. “They said 10 months. Wait. And then gradually my body started to recover, and I got energy back, and I started putting on a little bit of weight,” he admitted. The first time he heard his singing voice, as it was before cancer, made him so happy. “So one day I was just walking around the house, and I was feeling all right,” Bruce remembered and sang a few notes. “And I went, ‘Oh my God, it’s there. Oh my God.’ And that was, like, I’m thinking, probably the end of September, October. And I thought, ‘It’s there.’ And then I went, ‘Right. You know it’s there. So leave it alone. Put it back in its box ’cause you know it’s going to be all right. And the longer you leave it, the more all right it will be when you want to go balls out and start pushing it.'” Fans loved hearing Bruce Dickinson’s stories in the more than 2-hour interview. “You have scored the best interview with Bruce Dickinson in the history of history. He is the best vocalist in the past 50 years, and I am totally blown away by this wonderful opportunity to hear from the best singer in our generation. Go forward with pride because you have absolutely nailed it, Ms Elizabeth,” one wrote. “The success of this interview was because she is not a journalist or someone with an agenda. She is a vocal professional and a fan! That made the difference,” another person agreed. “Besides, she is so fresh and authentic, and that’s also why he was so comfortable! Wonderful interview that most have already mentioned reaches the title of EPIC!! Thank you, Elizabeth!” This story’s featured image is Gary Miller/Getty Images.
