Watch Lainey Wilson & Vince Gill Deliver Powerful Performance Of “Go Rest High On That Mountain” For Emmy In Memoriam Segment

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards were live last night from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with the very funny Nate Bargatze handling the host duties. Personally, I’m a huge fan of Nate, and have been for years and years… wild to see how far he’s come. The dude deserves it. He also donated $250,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of America at the end of it, more than CBS chipped in… respect. But unfortunately, I wasn’t gonna sit through hours of virtue signaling and lectures on their moral superiority from a bunch of out of touch Hollywood elites. We heard “F*** ICE, free Palestine!” in an acceptance speech, and the recently axed late night host, Stephen Colbert, got a standing ovation… nah, I’d rather watch football. But… Vince Gill and Lainey Wilson are in the building to handle the In Memoriam segment, and I had to tune in for that. And I’m glad I did… because naturally, it was downright phenomenal. Their voices just compliment each other so well. The segment remembered Loni Anderson, Alan Bergman,  Julian McMahom, Quincy Jones, David Lynch, Ozzy Osbourne, Maggie Smith, Michelle Trachtenberg, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, and many more. Given the kind of week we had last week, it feels all the more powerful: This past week, Vince released a new “Extended Version” of his emotional hit. Gill began writing it in the late 1980s after the death of country star Keith Whitley in 1989, but he didn’t actually finish the song until several years later when his own brother, Bob, passed away in 1993. The song was released in 1995 on his album When Love Finds You, and it would go on to win the CMA Song of the Year in 1996, as well as two Grammys (Best Male Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song).
