“The Senseless Death Of Charlie Kirk” – Country Singer/Songwriter, Tennessee Jet, Pens An Emotional Ode To The Late Charlie Kirk

If you’re not familiar with the name Tennessee Jet, first of all, you should be, but second of all… you might already be familiar with some of his work. The Oklahoma native, whose unique sound blends country storytelling with grungy rock, blues and folk music, has penned songs for the likes of Cody Jinks, Ward Davis, Josh Meloy, and more, but his own catalog is beyond impressive. Growing up on the road, going from rodeo to rodeo, TJ McFarland, AKA Tennessee Jet, developed a restless creativity that eventually led him from college baseball to full-time songwriting. His influences run deep: Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, and Dwight Yoakam to anchor the country side, while his cinematic writing style pulls from film and literature, John Steinbeck, for instance. Mix in some dirty guitars like that Jack White of the White Stripes, or the Black Keys and you’re starting to get a picture of Tennessee Jet. His self-titled debut arrived in 2015, and then he followed it up with Reata in 2017, continuing to hone his unique blend of classic country and modern grit. But it was his 2020 album The Country that really caught attention. The momentum continued with his 2021 album, South Dakota, and then in January of this year, he dropped his most recent studio album Ranchero. If you’re not familiar, I encourage you to dig it… you’re gonna love it. TJ has certainly penned a number of popular tunes, and has even delivered some incredible covers of country classics like Waylon Jennings’ “Waymore’s Blues,” but one that drew some of the most attention was his 2023 song, “2+2,” a scathing takedown of the woke culture and the hyper-progressive ideals that are infecting our society. It was honestly quite refreshing to hear, and of course, it led to places like the Mercury Lounge, in his home state of Oklahoma, canceling one of his shows. And now, in the wake of the tragic murder of Conservative media personality and influencer, Charlie Kirk, Tennessee Jet is back with a heartfelt tribute to the life and legacy of Charlie, affectionately titled, “The Senseless Death of Charlie Kirk.” The song recognizes the positive impact Charlie has had on the youth in this country, the evils that sought to silence him and what he stood for, and ultimately asks God to give his family and supporters comfort, understanding and courage in this extremely devastating time. Check it out: “The Senseless Death Of Charlie Kirk” Lyrics: Charlie was a good man Good as any man can be Tall in stature, strong in faith And he practiced what he preached A Christian with conviction I’ve heard many a people say Charlie was gonna be the President someday At a campus up in Utah On a bright September day The crowd was packed and rustlin’ Engaged in free debate Till a bullet from a rooftop Ended young Charlie’s life Dear God, they killed him In front of his children and his wife Chorus Help us understand now Jesus, dry our eyes to see Teach us how to deal now With this senseless tragedy Turn this rage and anger Into something you can use Use Charlie’s death now to turn us back to you With open conversation He exposed their evil ways Those demonic institutions Gatherin’ souls and washing brains When we murder peaceful dialogue We give birth to bloody war Charlie knew free speech is worth dyin’ for Chorus 2 Help us understand now Jesus, dry our eyes to see Teach us how to feel now Through this senseless tragedy Turn our lust for vengeance Into something you can use Help Charlie’s death now turn us back to you He was loved and tough and honest And for that his haters tried To silence him with violence And to slander him with lies But all they did was make a martyr Now there will come a reckonin’ Charlie’s voice is louder now than its ever been Charlie’s voice is louder now than its ever beenThe post “The Senseless Death Of Charlie Kirk” – Country Singer/Songwriter, Tennessee Jet, Pens An Emotional Ode To The Late Charlie Kirk first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
