In 1965, NBC introduced us to a sweet genie and an astronaut who fell madly in love in I Dream of Jeannie. The show ran for five seasons and a whopping 139 episodes. Barbara Eden portrayed Jeannie alongside Larry Hagman, her TV husband, Tony Nelson. With the blink of her eyes, Jeannie made her master’s wishes come true. The show was filled with silly storylines and lovable hijinks. At 94, Barbara Eden remains a magical presence and is excited about the show’s 60th anniversary. The two hit it off, and Jeannie stowed away in Tony’s bag. The rest, as they say, is television history. I Dream of Jeannie had its fair share of guest stars during its 5-year-one and Barabra dished on her favorite. “I loved having Sammy Davis Jr.,” she recalled. “He was such a darling gentleman.” Barbara also remembered a not-so-wonderful time on the set. She found herself stuck with no one to rescue her. “I think the only time, and it was when the crew and Larry and the whole cast left me in the bottle at lunchtime and I was starving,” she said. “I couldn’t get out of the bottle.” Barbara Eden also explained that she helped develop her character’s signature gestures. “The arms, I just figured it out. That’s what a genie does,” she told People. “And I thought blinking the eyes is a very passive thing.
